One of the best manouche jazz (gypsy jazz) violinist in the world, Florin Niculescu, is our special guest of Jazz in the Park 2015, where he will have his first concert at Cluj-Napoca so far. Being considered the successor of Stephane Grappelli, Florin Niculescu is recognized for his impressive technique, virtuosity and sensitivity in music.

Of Roma origin, Florin Niculescu was born at Bucharest in 1967, in a family of musicians - his father and uncle were violinists, his mother was a pianist and his sister a cellist. His first violin lessons were given to him by his father, and at the age of six, he became a student of "Dinu Lipatti" music school and after that a top student of "George Enescu" music academy. In 1991 he went to France to meet his idol, Stephane Grappelli, with whom later met in 1994, when Grappelli asked him to record an album together. In 2001, he joined Bireli Lagrene in "Gypsy Project", the pair being considered the musical successor of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. His discography includes five albums and collaborations with musicians like Jimmy Rosenberg, Babik Reinhardt (son of Django Reinhardt), Jon Larsen, George Benson, Angela Gheorghiu and some pop interpreters like Charles Aznavour, Patricia Kaas, Patrick Bruel, Johnny Hallyday and Henri Salvador.
The concert "Florin Niculescu and his guests presents: Tribute to Stephane Grappelli" will take place in 2nd of July at 20:00 o'clock, at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca. The access will be based on a ticket (price: 50 lei), and the tickets can be bought from the box office of Hungarian Opera, the agency of the National Theater, the box office in Iulius Mall and online at biletmaster.ro and jazzinthepark.ro.

"Same as last year, we offer music lovers free concerts and some special events with access only based on a ticket. Jazz in the Park is a festival for community, a festival which promotes good music and that's why most of the concerts will be with free access and will be performed outside, in places like Central Park, places which will be full of life, good music and activities. In the same time, we want to rise the quality of the festival by bringing to Cluj important artists at an international level, for which our public is willing to make an effort to bring them to the festival. So, after the model of the main festivals with the same profile in the world, our goal is to offer a good mix of free events and concerts with access based on a ticket. For 2015 we are very happy to have Florin Niculescu at Jazz in the Park, one of the most important Romanian jazzmen, who will perform for the first time in Cluj-Napoca. We are preparing other surprises as well for the lovers of good music", said Alin Vaida, the director of Jazz in the Park.

The third edition of the festival will take place between 29 June - 5 July, in more areas of the town, the centre of the festival being (as in previous editions) the Central Park. Among the artists that have been announced until now we have names as Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen, Tango with Lions, Tiptil and Sebastian Spanache Trio.

Jazz in the Park is organised by Fapte Association (Asociatia Fapte). The 2015 edition is being funded through a grant offered by Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and the government of Romania, as well as FDSC and City Hall and City Council Cluj-Napoca.
